Anwar for Mentri Besar Selangor?

Looks like the house of cards is falling. The true colours of some of these politicians are beginning to show after GE13. Now you understand why I said the people, especially the Chinese have been duped big time by Pakatan Rakyat. Some were so passionate in their cause for putting PR as the government that they failed to see beyond the facade.

It's all about the money. About RM3 Billion that's supposedly in the Selangor state government's coffers. Remember Azmin critising MB Khalid about not spending the money for 'development'? And the state assembly's decision to increase their own pay? Many questioned the wisdom of their actions. Many more blindly defended them. Hopefully now you see the real reason why they did it. It's all about the money. They are helping themselves to it while they still have the chance.

These politicians are treating the state's money and assets as their own.

There's talk that PSM might be contesting for the Kajang seat. I fully support PSM's candidacy. Among the political parties, I feel PSM is a party that have stuck to their principals. They were also played out and back-stabbed by the more powerful Pakatan Rakyat parties.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia

I hope the people of Kajang, especially the Chinese voters, will do the right thing. If your concerns about integrity, ethics and corruption are real, then you should reject those who do not live up to it. Reject those who betray the people's trust.  Many voters from to the middle-ground are beginning to regret supporting Pakatan Rakyat last elections. They were misled and used. What did the Chinese gain from all that? Nothing, except to be seen by others as a hysterical and uncouth community.

Apa Cina Mahu?

Anwar confirmed as Kajang state seat candidate

Anwar the next MB? Guess the Pakatan Rakyat supporters didn't see this coming...
PETALING JAYA: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will contest the Kajang state seat in the upcoming by-election.

In a packed press conference at the PKR headquarters on Tuesday, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced Anwar's candidacy for the state seat.

Asked if he agreed to Anwar running in the by-election, Khalid said: "If I did not agree, I would not be here."

Winning a state seat will enable Anwar to join the Selangor Legislative Assembly and take over the top job.
Asked how his candidacy was decided upon for the Kajang state seat, Anwar said it was based on a consensus within PKR, and agreed to by DAP and PAS.

"They nominated me to enhance Selangor's performance, which was already very good. It is a good place to move PKR forward to Putrajaya," he added.

Anwar pledged to assist the state government in whatever way possible, but when probed about the kalimah Allah issue, the PKR adviser said he was with the Mentri Besar on the matter.

"It is an issue beyond party politics," he added.

Asked why he did not contest the state seat in GE13, Anwar said his name was only nominated now.

He also said it was "too premature" to discuss how he would balance his roles as opposition leader, Permatang Pauh MP, and potential assemblyman for the Kajang state seat.

When alerted to the rakyat's concerns over the lack of information and explanation concerning the upcoming by-election, Anwar said the party would "have to explain the rationale" behind the move.

Also present at the press conference was DAP adviser and Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang, as well as PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub.

The N25 Kajang seat had fallen vacant following the sudden resignation of Kajang assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh on Monday.

It will be the second time a by-election is held to accommodate the Permatang Pauh MP.

His wife, Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, stepped down as Permatang Pauh MP on July 31, 2008 and a by-election was held on Aug 26.

At the time, Wan Azizah was Opposition Leader. Anwar won and was sworn into Parliament on Aug 28, taking over as the Opposition Leader. - SOURCE

PSM mulling over Kajang by-election contest

PSM secretary-general S Arutchelvan.
PETALING JAYA: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has revealed that it will not rule out the possibility to contest Kajang, following the resignation of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh.

In a text message to The Star Online, PSM secretary-general S Arutchelvan said that many have urged the party to stand in the Kajang by-election "to teach PKR a lesson".

"In the last 24 hours, we have got lots of calls from people, especially young voters and NGOs asking us to stand in the Kajang by-election to teach PKR a lesson.

"PSM will check feedback and decide with our members. At this moment we are not ruling out anything," he said.

In the GE13, PSM, an opposition-friendly party contested against PKR in the Semenyih state seat, which falls next to the district of Kajang.

In 2008 general election, Arutchelvan contested and narrowly lost the seat.

Their political relationship has also reportedly turned sour as Pakatan Rakyat refused to accept PSM due to different political ideologies.
Earlier today, Pakatan announced that PKR supremo Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will contest the seat, an attempt seen by many to make him the next Mentri Besar replacing Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim who is under pressure to resign from his post. - SOURCE

PKR's Problem Becomes Selangor's Problem

Curly, Larry & Moe

Kajang assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh resigned with immediate effect without any good reason, and the seat is now vacant. A by-election will be held within 60 days to elect a new assemblyman. Frankly, I have no idea who this chap is. I think it's the Malaysian culture, especially in the private sector, where employees like to resign without notice, or worse, just stop showing up for work the day after they received their paycheck.

In this particular case, it is bit different because it concerns an elected people's representative. If these politicians take your vote and the system so flippantly, why do you even bother to go out and vote, in rain or shine, standing in line for hours, and go home with a bloody stained finger?

Rumour has it that whomever PR fields to contest that seat will be the new Mentri Besar.

Due to the overwhelming adoration of their fans, these PKR fellas think that they can use the people, again, so that they can settle their internal problems. I repeat, INTERNAL PROBLEMS. They think that their coming party elections is more important than the state government. Do they think that the state government is their property? I think they really do. In case you forget, they've just rewarded themselves with a huge salary increment this year.

Actually, after the previous Lee Khai Loon kangkung fiasco (also from PKR), I not the least surprised at how low these people can go.

And some people insists on letting them run a country. I have a better suggestion. Just get rid of the 3 of them. Problem solved.

Anyway, it really makes little difference now. The outcome will not matter to the Selangor people. It's just politicians doing what they do best, fighting for power & glory. Just enjoy the show. That's what you voted them for isn't it? This is what happens when you hand them a blank cheque.

Who knows, maybe you will be treated to one of these fun carnival-like ceramahs. Don't forget to make a donation afterwards.

Ini kali Lah!

Kajang rep Lee Chin Cheh resigns

Lee Chin Cheh the Kajang assemblyman who opted for early retirement to enjoy his pension, waving sayonara to the Kajang sheeple. "Kajang people! You all come out to vote ah... Ubah ah... Reformasi ah... whatever la... hahahahahaha... losers."

PETALING JAYA: Kajang assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh has resigned from the Selangor Legislative Assembly Monday.

Selangor State Speaker Hannah Yeoh made the announcement at a press conference at 5pm.

With Lee's resignation, Yeoh officially declared the N25 Kajang seat vacant.

According to Article 70 (5) of the Selangor State Constitution, a vacant seat should be filled within 60 days.

Yeoh said that she would hand a letter to the Election Commission on Tuesday.

When asked the reasons behind his resignation, Yeoh told reporters to ask him personally.

"He came in personally to see me and handed in his resignation letter. I'm surprised because he had contributed a lot to the Selangor state assembly," she said.

Yeoh refused to comment when asked if Lee's resignation was related to the spat between current Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and Azmin Ali.

"It is premature to speculate things. As of now, the seat is vacant.

"N25 is a PKR seat and will be contested by a PKR member," she said.

The resignation of Lee, better known as CC Lee in PKR, is believed to be connected to mounting speculation that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is being lined up to replace Khalid as Selangor Mentri Besar.

Anwar needs to be part of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly in order to take over the top job.

Lee secured 19,571 votes, winning the Kajang seat with a 6,824-vote majority in a six-cornered fight against candidates from the Barisan Nasional, Berjasa and three Independents.

The Act of Killing - Documentary/Movie

Although I find that the way the main characters were misled by the producer was ethically questionable,  I did enjoyed the film. The film provides interesting insights into the minds of persons who are capable of mass murders/executions. The most important factor is that these murderers are convinced that their acts of killing is for the right reasons. There's also empowerment. They believe that what they do is sanctioned by higher authorities so that they are absolved of any guilt or remorse.

Bear in mind that these people are gangsters and violent people to begin with. Somehow, through a perverted turn in history, these people were tasked with the patriotic duty of rooting out and exterminating the communists. They were the Suharto's government's death squad during 1965-66. It was estimated that 500k to 1 million people were killed, among them were communists, farmers and ethnic Chinese. Men, women, children, nobody were spared. (More info Here). Although the ethnic Chinese were not the sole target during that period, they were however, specifically targeted in the 1998 riots. (More info HERE)

This film has generated quite a number of interests in China, where some Chinese learned about it for the first time. It also received mixed reactions both in Indonesian as well as China. More news HERE and HERE.

After watching this film, it really makes me wonder whether the people in Malaysia have taken peace & harmony for granted. It also brings me to question the wisdom of those who are fond of threatening others and also those who insists on provoking the former.

Anyway, looking at Anwar Congo & his friends today with families of their own, you wouldn't have guessed that they were part of a group of mass murderers who collectively were responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. In the film, they nonchalantly re-enact the techniques they employed in the murders. There's even a scene where they went about extorting money from Chinese shop owners (not re-enactment but was recorded live as it was happening). It's as if extortion is legal over there.

They were used, first by the politicians in the 1960s, and again by the producer of this film. Perhaps it's karma, which ironically Anwar Congo did talk about in one of the scenes. He also talks about his nightmares.

Overall, an interesting film worth watching.

Synopsis (from IMDB)

Anwar Congo and his friends have been dancing their way through musical numbers, twisting arms in film noir gangster scenes, and galloping across prairies as yodelling cowboys. Their foray into filmmaking is being celebrated in the media and debated on television, because Anwar Congo and his friends are mass murderers.

MEDAN, INDONESIA When the government of Indonesia was overthrown by the military in 1965, Anwar and his friends were promoted from small-time gangsters who sold movie theatre tickets on the black market to death squad leaders. They helped the army kill more than one million alleged communists, ethnic Chinese, and intellectuals in less than a year. As the executioner for the most notorious death squad in his city, Anwar himself killed hundreds of people with his own hands. Today, Anwar is revered as a founding father of a right-wing paramilitary organization that grew out of the death squads. The organization is so powerful that its leaders include government ministers, and they are happy to boast about everything from corruption and election rigging to acts of genocide.

THE ACT OF KILLING is about killers who have won, and the sort of society they have built. Unlike ageing Nazis or Rwandan genocidaires, Anwar and his friends have not been forced by history to admit they participated in crimes against humanity. Instead, they have written their own triumphant history, becoming role models for millions of young paramilitaries. THE ACT OF KILLING is a journey into the memories and imaginations of the perpetrators, offering insight into the minds of mass killers. And THE ACT OF KILLING is a nightmarish vision of a frighteningly banal culture of impunity in which killers can joke about crimes against humanity on television chat shows, and celebrate moral disaster with the ease and grace of a soft shoe dance number.

A LOVE OF CINEMA In their youth, Anwar and his friends spent their lives at the movies, for they were "movie theatre gangsters": they controlled a black market in tickets, while using the cinema as a base of operations for more serious crimes. In 1965, the army recruited them to form death squads because they had a proven capacity for violence, and they hated the communists for boycotting American films - the most popular (and profitable) in the cinemas. Anwar and his friends were devoted fans of James Dean, John Wayne, and Victor Mature. They explicitly fashioned themselves and their methods of murder after their Hollywood idols. And coming out of the midnight show, they felt "just like gangsters who stepped off the screen". In this heady mood, they strolled across the boulevard to their office and killed their nightly quota of prisoners. Borrowing his technique from a mafia movie, Anwar preferred to strangle his victims with wire.

In THE ACT OF KILLING, Anwar and his friends agree to tell the filmmakers the story of the killings. But their idea of being in a movie is not to provide testimony for a documentary: they want to star in the kind of films they most love from their days scalping tickets at the cinemas. The filmmakers seize this opportunity to expose how a regime that was founded on crimes against humanity, yet has never been held accountable, would project itself into history.

And so the filmmakers challenge Anwar and his friends to develop fiction scenes about their experience of the killings, adapted to their favorite film genres - gangster, western, musical. They write the scripts. They play themselves. And they play their victims. Their fiction filmmaking process provides the film's dramatic arc, and their film sets become safe spaces to challenge them about what they did. Some of Anwar's friends realize that the killings were wrong. Others worry about the consequence of the story on their public image. Younger members of the paramilitary movement argue that they should boast about the horror of the massacres, because its terrifying and threatening force is the basis of their power today. As opinions diverge, the atmosphere on set grows tense. The edifice of genocide as a "patriotic struggle", with Anwar and his friends as its heroes, begins to sway and crack.

Most dramatically, the filmmaking process catalyzes an unexpected emotional journey for Anwar, from arrogance to regret as he confronts, for the first time in his life, the full terror of what he's done. As Anwar's fragile conscience is threatened by the pressure to remain a hero, THE ACT OF KILLING presents a gripping conflict between moral imagination and moral catastrophe.

Peace & Harmony

Regardless of which party wins, politicians and their supporters must understand 2 things:

1. It does not give the winning party the right to step on or insult the losing party.
2. It does not mean you should ignore the voices of those who oppose your stand or views, regardless of the size or political affiliation, or religious or racial composition of that group.

That is the meaning of democracy and the fundamentals of a civil society. The day you ignore these values is the day you will pay the price. Sadly, there are many unqualified & irresponsible politicians being elevated into leadership positions. This is the consequence when the people let emotions cloud their judgements.

As history has shown us, when the going gets tough, these politicians and leaders are the first to plead their innocence or disappear altogether seeking refuge in other countries. Very few would be willing to take responsibility or even walk with you through thick and thin. When things go well, they are the first to take credit. Mostly, it's the common folks, those who actually have to work for a living and provide for their families, who will end up suffering for the actions of their elected/unelected leaders.

Many seem to forget that Malaysia is an Asian country, made up of peoples with Asian values and traditions. Some people are so obsessed with western ideologies and culture that instead of adapting themselves into an asian society, they instead want to change the country to fit them. It is unrealistic, especially when compounded by the multi racial and religious composition of this country.

Look around you today and you will see that there are only a handful of countries where the people get to enjoy peace, harmony and a relatively comfortable life. If we narrow it down to developing countries such as our, the numbers are even less.

Perhaps, it is time to re-evaluate your priorities in life. What do you want to leave behind for you future generations?

Lee Khai Loon: Sorry is the hardest word

The people who voted for this guy must be so proud. What more could the people of Machang Bubok (wherever that is) want? I'm glad that the people there have finally got a leader that truly reflects their own kind.

Firstly, if you don't want to apologise, just say it outright. Don't have to beat around the bush with stupid excuses. Even a kid would tell you that what you did was a direct insult to the PM. Just admit that you meant to insult the PM and do not have any regret for your actions. Be a man.

Secondly, please don't make it sound like you did it for the people's benefit and all Malaysians should be thankful for your generous act. What would the people get from you mocking the Prime Minister? A few laughs?

Perhaps you think it is Najib who should apologise to you?

Besides, the person who "advised" you to do so was only trying to cover his own hide. Why do you need to take his words so seriously?

And that Reezal guy from UMNO also distanced himself from the offending banner with the threatening words, claiming that he was unaware of it.

Do you people really expect politicians to take responsibility for their actions? And this is only a 'minor' skirmish mind you... imagine if things really gets out of hand, do you seriously think these kind of people will be man enough to own up or stand up to defend you?

Wise up people... in the real world, it's every man for himself.

No apology for kangkung flash mob, says Machang Bubok rep

PETALING JAYA: Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon has “thanked” DAP leader Lim Kit Siang for advising him to apologise for organising a “Kangkung flash mob” but said that he would not bow down to what he termed "Umno’s racist and violent actions."

In a statement, Lee said that the most important thing was to continue the movement to protest the issue of rising costs of living, taxes and GST so that the government heard the people’s voice......
..... “The Kangkung flash mob was symbolic and was organised so that the Prime Minister would be more concerned with the people’s suffering. It wasn’t meant to insult anyone. The flash mob was a response to the issue of the rising cost of living. Because of this, I will not bow down to racist statements and violence from Umno,” said Lee. - Read More

Kit Siang wants Khai Loon "to consider" apologising over kangkung flash mob

PETALING JAYA: DAP leader Lim Kit Siang wants Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon to consider apologising for the flash mob over the kangkung issue.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lim said Lee should consider the apology "especially as there are those who regard such protest as excessive, offensive and insensitive (and I am one of them)."

"An even more important consideration is not to allow irresponsible quarters to look for excuses to distort and manipulate incidents to incite and inflame emotions which could escalate racial and religious hatred, conflict and tension in their ultimate objective to create another May 13 in the country," he said. - Read More

Najib mocked with Kangkung

Don't the Chinese have any manners anymore? Why resort to such uncouth behaviour for publicity? It is a disgrace. These politicians just don't know their limits do they? I wonder if behaviour like this represents the 5000 years of civilisation of the Chinese people and the proud product of Chinese education. You just used price hikes as an excuse to mock the PM.

Your kind also love to make fun of other Chinese who happens to support BN or do not share your point of view on issues. You demand absolute loyalty to your kind. Dissent will be dealt with severely and swiftly. Your operators online and offline will ensure these voices are silenced.

Has the success of the Pakatan parties gone to your heads? Sometimes, it's wise not to step on too many people on your way up, because you'll be meeting them on your way down.

And of course, true to form,  UMNO responded ostensibly to defend the PM, but in reality, to threaten the Chinese with another May 13, a threat they never fail to repeat since 1969...

Sometimes I really do wonder if it was UMNO's intention all along to kick the Chinese out of BN so that they have the excuse to whack them more. Perhaps MCA, Gerakan & MIC have outlived their usefulness. I really do think so, especially after the last general elections. It looks like the only way UMNO will get Malay support is through the demise of the Chinese. Without the Chinese, somehow PAS & PKR will become redundant.

It's really quite a strong hint on what the Malays actually think of the Chinese doesn't it? Usually smart people would get it the first time they are told, but apparently, some communities despite being told for 45 years, still don't get it.

The zeal these UMNO people show in defending the PM and their party President is indeed commendable although the intention is somewhat questionable. The fact that right now, various factions within UMNO are moving to topple PM Najib seems not to be of any significance to them. To these people who see themselves as the power behind the throne, he's just the President of their party, a position he holds for as long as he does what he's told. They are never short of eager volunteers from within their ranks to choose from anyway.

PKR urges police to act over May 13 threat by Umno supporters

PKR has urged the police to arrest those involved in yesterday's protest in Penang which saw several placards raising the spectre of May 13-style riot.

Its vice-president N. Surendran, described threats of a racial bloodshed by Umno members as shocking and a blatant act of criminality.

"Umno has clearly lost its senses, it is increasingly losing the rakyat's support and is now resorting to tactics commonly employed by North Korea," he said.

Surendran also took to task Barisan Nasional's Kepala Batas MP, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, for joining "this criminal Umno mob waving banners and placards which are inciting the public to violence".

"The crimes committed during yesterday's protest by Umno include criminal intimidation, public mischief and participating in acts detrimental to parliamentary democracy," he said.

"Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and the Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi cannot afford to keep silent on this issue.

"Police must take action against the protesters because of the openly criminal nature of this Umno mob," said the human rights lawyer, questioning the police's silence despite the news of the protest being widely reported.

"This is blatant hypocrisy, Pakatan Rakyat's previous peaceful gatherings and flash mobs have seen police cracking down in a heavy-handed manner," he added.

He said the rowdy protest in Seberang Jaya yesterday showed that Umno was now completely  intolerant of criticism.

Surendran (pic, left) also defended Machang Bubuk state assemblyman Lee Khai Loon and his actions during a flash mob last week, where he stuffed kangkung (water spinach) into an effigy resembling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"Lee was merely expressing his right to freedom of expression which is enshrined in Article 10 of the Federal Constitution," Surendran said.

"There was nothing wrong or inappropriate with Lee's flash mob protest as these things are normal in any democratic country."

Surendran reminded that as Prime Minister, Najib was not above criticism, and urged him to condemn Penang Umno and take disciplinary action on Reezal.

An estimated 600 people comprising Penang Umno members had gathered to condemn Lee for the flash mob.

The crowd carried placards and banners, chanted "Allahu Akbar" and "Hidup Melayu" (Long live the Malays).

One of the banners read: "Because of DAP's leaders mouth, May 13, 1969 happened ... Want some more?" Others had messages like "Insulting the PM is like insulting the Malays", "Penang Malays survive by eating kangkung", "ABCD - Asal Bukan Cina DAP" and "DAP is the enemy of Islam".

Najib has come under attack over a recent speech in which he cited the low price of kangkung as an example that the government had no say in prices of goods.

He has since said he used the kangkung example to explain the principle of supply and demand.

"I like to eat kangkung, you all like to eat kangkung. As such, I gave an example which everybody eats. If I use quail as an example, only certain people eat it," he was quoted as saying by Bernama. - January 19, 2014. - SOURCE

2014 Year of the Horse - Chinese Zodiac Forecast for Rooster

Rooster

Born in: 1933 1945 1957 1969 1981 1993 2005

Personality

Dramatic but a reputable person who works systematically Hardworking, resourceful, talented and confident. Vivacious and popular socially, but may have a tendency to brag insensitively. Outspoken and loves to attract attention. Always take good care of their family and can handle money well.

The Rooster, or Chicken as he is called, is the Don Quixote of the Chinese cycle. The dauntless hero who must look to the earth to survive, he is the most misunderstood and eccentric of all the signs. outwardly, he is the epitome of self-assurance and aggression, but at heart he could be conservative and old-fashioned.

The Rooster-born, especially the men, will be attractive, even dashingly handsome. The princely fowl is radiant and proud of his fine feathers and has an impressive carriage. You don't find any roosters slouching; they strut about with dignity. Even the shyest member of the Rooster family will cut a neat, trim figure and maintain a special bearing wherever he goes.

There are two distinct type of Roosters. The rapid-firing, extremely talkative ones and the deadly solemn observer types with the X-ray vision. both are equally hard to deal with. The Rooster has many outstanding qualities to crow about. He is sharp, neat, precise, organized, decisive, upright, alert, and most direct. He can also be critical to the point of brutality. Don't ever ask him his frank, candid opinion--you may never recover from his comments.

Chinese must not give bribes!

I know, I know... the Chinese are stereotyped as corrupted, rich, ungrateful, pendatangs, Malay-haters, etc...

And this recent article has created small ripples in cyberspace with Chinese & Malays blaming each other. The givers being Chinese obviously, blaming the receivers Malays and vice versa. So, who is right? As the saying goes, two wrongs don't make a right. or it takes two to tango. or the pot calling the kettle black. Whatever.

Having said that, before we train our guns at MACC Deputy Commissioner Datuk Sutinah Sutan, she was actually responding to the survey conducted by the Chinese themselves, the Federation of Chinese Association Malaysia (Huazong). I do find the survey half-baked, because a sampling of 216 persons is too small. And frankly, I wonder why they would conduct such a redundant survey because it's common knowledge. Perhaps that explains why the small sampling.

Anyway, I presume the survey was skewed towards the lower end of the corruption spectrum. Usually the smaller the amount, the easier it is in enforcement. However, the real action takes place at the higher spectrum, in terms of the amount involved. Like they say, follow the money... but then, that is where their jobs become hazardous to their health. hehehehe.

Anyway, since we're talking about the lower spectrum, let's dive into the facts:

1. Demographics
Chinese are the higher percentage in giving and Malays are the higher percentage in receiving because over 90% of civil servants are Malays. It's actually not true that the Chinese only likes to bribe the Malays but in reality, it's actually quite difficult to find a non-Malay to bribe in the government departments. To be clear and not turn this into a racial issue, the Chinese have absolutely no qualms in bribing any race.

2. Pragmatism
Time is money. In terms of time cost, the amount spent to "facilitate" transactions would work out to be cheaper than the DIY way. To the Chinese, it's a business transaction. The amount given would have gone through very detailed calculations, factoring in cost, benefits, risks and ROI. To the Malays, it's helping out the Chinese and the money received is just an act of appreciation. You help me, I help you...

3. Cultural
Those receiving, who are Malays (see point number 1) are more inclined to take from the Chinese rather than from Malays. Why? Partly because the risk of being reported by a fellow Malay is exponentially higher than a Chinese. And the fact that most Malays often have relatives or friends in government service greatly increases the risk to the levels that could be detrimental to their rice-bowl. So, depending on circumstances, the Chinese actually do get better service because they are co-operative, easy-going, there's a mutual understanding and not a bloody pain in the ass... so to speak.

4. Tolerance
The Chinese do indeed have a higher tolerance towards corruption. In fact, it is ingrained in the psyche of the community whenever they have to deal with government departments. Partly due to government bureaucracy (refer to point number 2), and partly due to their lack of proficiency in Bahasa Melayu. The fact that most of the government forms do not have Mandarin translations have left them with no other choice but to partake in acts of bribery. Even for those who understands BM have a hard time comprehending the meaning of simple words, for instance, "keturunan" which means ethnicity, and insists on creating their own ethnicity such as "Anak Malaysia" which translate to "Child of Malaysia".

Anyway, seriously, in the lower spectrum, the Malay community are indeed less tolerant in corruption than Chinese. The Malays have the view that the government servants (being also Malay) should do what they are paid to do. It's their job. The Malays don't have the culture of giving bribes when dealing with government officials. But to the Chinese, it has become the norm.

In the context of the survey findings, Datuk Sutinah Sutan is correct. The Chinese do have to do their part if we are serious in fighting corruption.

Having said that, if the MACC is really, really serious in it's job, they must first and foremost eradicate the syndicates prevalent in some of the government agencies. These syndicates are so ingrained in the system that it is impossible for the public to bypass them. If they can achieve that, it would be a major milestone for the country.

I hope MACC's new year resolution involves less talking, more working.

Tolerance of corruption can ruin the country

Translated by SOONG PHUI JEE
Sin Chew Daily

Datuk Sutinah Sutan
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 12 (Sin Chew Daily) – MACC deputy commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Sutinah Sutan reminds the Chinese community that the corruption tolerance mentality must be changed as in addition to opening the door for corruption, it will also breed corruption culture and bring endless harm to individuals, the society, as well as the country.

She said during an interview with Sin Chew Daily in response to a recent survey of 216 Chinese Malaysians aged between 16 and 45 by Federation of Chinese Association Malaysia (Huazong) Youth's Crime and Corruption Prevention.

The survey revealed that 78% of respondents said that accepting treats from contractors is reasonable, while 63% accept kickbacks and 58% accept buying "drinks" for enforcement officers to expedite the processing of documents.

Sutinah said that some Chinese might not understand the operation of government departments and since they are impatient and hope to get things done faster, they take a shortcut and bribe government officials.

She also pointed out that the lack of transparency in government departments' operation and administration might also have contributed to the practice of receiving table-money among government officials.

"When some people proceed to government departments for official business like applying for a business licence, he might not clear about the application process, such as what forms to fill in and which counter he should proceed to. Therefore, to save time and avoid troubles, some people might consider bribing the officials to expedite the procession of their applications," she said.

She said that the government is aware that the lack of transparency and low efficiency will lead to corruption and abuse of power. Therefore, the government has started to put up departmental organisation charts and responsibilities of various government agencies to facilitate the public.

"Some hospitals also show organisation charts and if members of the public are not satisfied with the service attitude of doctors or nurses, they will know to whom they can make a complaint," she added.

Sutinah also pointed out that government departments have gradually transformed into high-tech electronics operations to reduce red tape and simplify application procedures, to enhance transparency and services. For instance, it took three months to get an international passport in the past but it takes only 24 hours or one hour for renewal today.

Malaysian Property Market in 2014 & 2015

For the past year, those vested have painted a bullish and rosy picture of the property market. Everyone would deny that there is a bubble. Even as recent as last month, they were still denying that the market has tapered off. I guess it's true when they say it's not a bubble until they officially deny it.

So, there you go. 2014 & 2015 will be a slow year for property... at the ridiculous prices these days, I not surprised. Depending on the world economy, I think it will last a while longer.

To those who had a good run these past few years, congratulations. For those who are still dreaming of owning their own home, don't worry. You will find your dream home soon enough. You may take your time because prices will taper a bit. Do not rush into any big purchases because you will be committing for the long term. So, it's prudent to find a property you like at the price you are comfortable with. The economy is not doing great and business has been slow since last year. So it is prudent to ensure that you have strong financial standing when the time comes.

We've seen many Boom Bust cycles throughout history. It's the same every time. Usually those who speculate will be affected. Those who buy for their own stay, doesn't matter to them whether the price goes up or down really. Just make sure you can afford the installments (you should take this seriously or else you will lose your home and still end up with debt).

Developers will build according to demand. Any business will always try to sell at the highest price the buyers are willing to pay. Supply & demand.

Amidst rising prices and slowing economy, those in power forgot to give the most important advice: Try not to lose your job.

Malaysia's property market to take a breather this year and next

PETALING JAYA: The property market might need at least two years to digest and recover from the various cooling measures that came into effect this month, but expect it to surge again in 2016, say industry officials.

According to Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents president Siva Shanker, 2014 is expected to be a tough year for sales, but the market will find its footing next year and catch the next upcycle in 2016.

“The market ground to a standstill after Budget 2014. There was a knee-jerk reaction in sales.

“It will probably stay in the doldrums for the first half of 2014. The second half may be better,” Shanker, who is also CEO-Agency of property consultancy PPC International Sdn Bhd, told StarBiz by phone.

Shanker believes that speculation over the past few years in the primary market, resulting in “far more properties bought than needed”, had been put to a stop by the new curbs.

“The days of 20%-40% appreciation in property prices after only a few years is over, ” he said.

Even so, Shanker sees the secondary market, which he said had languished for years, regaining its lustre.

“A new launch in Bangsar could set you back RM1,500 per sq ft, compared to RM800-RM1,000 per sq ft for an existing property. The discount goes up to 50% in some prime areas,” he said.

An analyst with TA Research said that unlike previous years, many listed developers have held back on their 2014 sales targets – a departure from their usual forward guidance in December – until a clearer picture emerges from the effects of Budget 2014 and other tightening measures.

The exception is Mah Sing Group Bhd, which is aiming for a 20% increase in sales this year to RM3.6bil.

According to the analyst, policy uncertainty on several fronts – such as whether Iskandar Malaysia’s Medini is exempt from real property gains tax, or the pricing of bank loans using the net selling price of a property – remains an overhang on the market.

“The sector’s fundamentals are intact, but in terms of share prices, the catalysts are lacking,” she said.

Property players have noticed a marked slowdown in sales since the various curbs were put in place, although it is unclear by how much.

A number of high-end launches were also shelved, as developers switch their focus to the affordable segment of the market, where demand is more resilient.

Some of the projects launched post-Budget 2014 include block B of YTL Land & Development Bhd’s Fennel@Sentul East condominiums, which saw a take-up of 80% soon after it was opened for sale in mid-November, while tower A and B of Sunway Bhd’s Geo Residences were 85% sold within two weeks, HwangDBS Vickers Research noted.

In Iskandar Malaysia, however, the response to UEM Sunrise Bhd’s Almas Suites and WCT Holdings Bhd’s Medini Signature Tower 2 have been lukewarm, Maybank Research said in a report last week.

The brokerage’s only “buy” call is Glomac Bhd, even though the firm has cut its own sales target for the year ending April 30, 2014 by 18%.

CIMB Research is more upbeat. It expects buying interest to return in the first half of this year, albeit gradually, when potential homeowners realise that prices are unlikely to fall, and that inflationary pressure from the impending goods and services tax, along with other subsidy cuts, leads to higher prices.

“As these macro prudential and policy measures are meant to curb speculation and not restrain genuine demand, the impact (though negative in the short term) should be positive over the longer run because they should help to remove froth from some segments of the market.

“Also, affordability remains close to its highest ever. Robust sales by developers should provide impetus for a re-rating of property stocks,” the research house told clients earlier this month.

Hong Leong Investment Bank Research, which believes the market will stage a recovery in the second half of the year, advocates a buy-on-weakness strategy for shares amid trough valuations.

RPK: The Rubicon has been crossed

UMNO, it seems, is fighting for it's survival. Is that so? Only the Malays will be able to answer that.

The real question is: Do the Malays want UMNO? Again, it's up to the Malays.

Who's fault is it? The 20+% Chinese? or the 60+% Malays?

Well, looking at the present mentality of their leaders & supporters, the minorities will end up paying the price so that UMNO remains in power... according to their logic, it's the Indian's fault (Hindraf), it's the Malay's fault (PAS & PKR supporters), it's the Chinese's fault (DAP & MCA), it's the Christians' fault (Kalimah Allah), but it's never their own fault.

There was UMNO Lama (v1.0), then UMNO Baru (v2.0), will there be a possibility for an UMNO 3.0 in the future?

And is DAP going to lead the fight on Pakatan's side? Since 95% of the Chinese supports DAP it would mean the Chinese against UMNO Malays.

Malays will be Malays, regardless of political affiliation. Most of them do not like the Chinese. Really. Don't believe me? Ask your Malay friends and if they are honest, they will confirm what I just said. The genuinely non-prejudiced Malays are actually a minority. Some Malays genuinely prefer to mix with other races because they are not judged or forced to conform like when they are among their peers.

The relationship among the two races in general has always been based on benefits. Both races have never had a close relationship or affinity towards one another. But they have gotten along well because each minds their own business. For example, when Malays patronise sundry shops, they get to buy on credit. In business, the Malays can depend on the Chinese for the funds. and so on... Until today, most Malays still have the stereotyping that every Chinese is rich :)... (which is not true la)... So, the Chinese are tolerated. That is what is meant by "kongsi", the magic formula.

But one thing that other races do not understand about the Malays is that... never muck with their religion, Islam. That is the worst thing you could ever do... and the Chinese, especially, should be mindful of that, especially since DAP is most vocal. And religion was one of the contributing factors that spooked a lot of Malays back to BN last election...

The Rubicon has been crossed

January 12, 2014

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Once you have crossed the Rubicon there is no longer any turning back. You have already crossed the point of no return. And looking at the developments of the Allah word (kalimah Allah) controversy, I would dare venture that this point has definitely been crossed.

This, I suppose, strengthens, if not proves, the theory I have been propagating the last couple of years leading to the recent May 2013 general election. And that theory is the 3R strategy is very crucial to Umno’s survival — and that it will become even more crucial after the general election when Umno wakes up to the reality that its future depends on the Malay vote and that it has lost the support of the non-Malays for good.

Yes, I know, I appear to get a hard on when I am proven right. I get an orgasm when I can say, “I told you so!” I do not deny that. I live for that moment and at my age, when I am pushing 64, there is really very little else to live for, if you know what I mean.

The main focus of this controversy appears to be raising questions: (1) Who should be blamed? (2) Why in the first place is this an issue? (3) Why does Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak not do something to solve this? (4) Why are Muslims interfering in the rights of non-Muslims to practice their religion? (5) Since when is Allah the monopoly of Islam? (6) Don’t the non-Muslim Arabs also use the Allah word? (7) Is not Allah the pre-Islamic name for God anyway? (8) Is this law fair and just? (9) Why can’t they amend or repeal this law? (10) Why did they not oppose this law back then before it became law?

Yes, the game of ten questions and playing the blame-game to seek a scapegoat to pin the blame on. Good questions those ten question but the wrong questions to ask. Even if you can find good answers to these ten questions that is still not going to solve the problem mainly because those are not the right questions to ask. You should be asking different questions instead, which no one is asking.

Sure, but that is only your theory, you may argue. That does not make it correct. Well, it depends on whether we are talking about Political Philosophy or Political Science. Both may involve the study of politics but the first is the study of ‘ought to be’ while the second is the study of ‘what is’.

You are talking about what ought to be (or Political Philosophy) while I am talking about what is (or Political Science). And herein lies the problem although you may think we are both talking about the same thing, meaning politics.

Now that we have crossed the Rubicon and there is no longer any turning back, looking behind (like asking those ten questions) is futile. The only option now is to move forward and win. And that was what Julius Caesar’s army had to do when they crossed the Rubicon River in 49 BC. They had to win or die!

And this, too, is the only option open to Umno in this game of 3R politics. Win or die! And since this issue has already crossed the point of no return, Umno will have to find ways of winning this battle or else Umno is dead in the water. And since they may be dead anyway come the next general election in 2018 or so, what difference does it make? Do nothing they die and do something they have a 50-50 chance of living or dying.

I have said this many times before. When in combat against a vicious enemy, never leave it wounded. Kill it! A wounded tiger is most dangerous. So do not wound it unless you can kill it. More people die from attacks from a wounded tiger than from attacks from a healthy tiger.

And that is what Umno currently is. It is a badly wounded, vicious animal. You did not kill it in May 2013. You badly wounded it. And now you have told it that you are going to slit its throat come 2018. So this wounded animal sees visions of death over the horizon and it needs to fight to stay alive.

And, in such a scenario, you kill, or be killed.

I am surprised that many talk about Sun Tzu but not many practice Sun Tzu’s art of war. Sun Tzu taught us that the element of stealth and surprise are crucial in war. The Americans call it shock and awe.

Standing on top of the hill and shouting at your wounded enemy, while waving a sword, that you are going to come down from the hill to slit his throat is not what Sun Tzu taught us. There is no element of stealth and surprise, or shock and awe, in that although you may impress the pretty girls watching the whole drama.

Let both sides be warned. This has now turned into a duel to the death. And let the best combatant win. And in such a combat there are no Queensbury Rules. So if you have a weak heart, stay well away from the battlefield. -

Now, every UMNO member can whack a Deputy Minister

The title is a paraphrasing of Air Asia's tagline, Now everyone can fly...

A high-ranking member of the Hulu Selangor UMNO branch asked the Deputy Education Minister to facilitate the transfer of the UMNO member's son, who is a teacher back to Hulu Selangor. The teacher is currently posted in Johor. Apparently, Kamalanathan was attacked when he rejected the request.

Who says UMNO is weak huh? Now you know who is the boss... I wonder if that particular UMNO member would dare to do the same to the PM or the Deputy PM, or Nazri, the Tourism Minister? Perhaps it's because MIC weak. I doubt Samy Vellu would be treated like this during his days.

Which makes me wonder, how does UMNO view MCA? I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if the MCA president will end up as the piece of wood in this picture...

.... because, realistically, you are seriously deluded if you were expecting this...

I bet the component parties in BN are praying hard that this does not become a trend... hehehehehe....

Ok, seriously, this is nothing new. Back in the 80s, UMNO members have already pulled their weight in the civil service. Certain public servants would produce a letter from UMNO and they would be fast-tracked for promotions or their requests will be approved without question.

Yup. UMNO is powerful.

The transfers of teachers is not new. The problem has been going on for years.

Kamalanathan on assault by Umno member: No comment

PETALING JAYA: Deputy Education Minister and Hulu Selangor MP, P. Kamalanathan on Monday confirmed that he has made a police report on Sunday at his service centre in Hulu Selangor, following his assault by a Hulu Selangor Umno member.

"I have given my statement to the police and am fully cooperating with them on their investigation.

" I do not wish to comment further on this matter as it may hinder the ongoing investigation by the police," he said when contacted on Monday.

Kamalanathan on Sunday was assaulted during his conversation with a member, who holds a high post in the Hulu Selangor Umno branch, regarding a transfer request for his son, who is a teacher in Johor, to Hulu Selangor.

According to the investigating officer, upon Kamalanathan's refusal, the suspect argued with him and then struck on his throat which eventually led for the meeting to be cancelled.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and police were on the lookout for the suspect. - SOURCE

Union nod for proposals to tackle teacher transfer issues

July 13, 2013

The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has welcomed proposals from the education ministry to form a committee to handle problems involving teacher transfers.

NUTP secretary-general Lok Yim Pheng said they were aware of the problem as they received at least 10,000 applications for transfers a year.

She said the figure sometimes even reached up to 20,000 a year, but the main problem was actually insufficient posts.

"This happens because teachers choose to go back to their hometown or preferred state, either where their spouse is located or where they have bought a home," she said at a news conference in Kuala Terengganu today.

Also present were Terengganu NUTP chairman Abu Bakar Mamat, Terengganu NUTP honorary secretary Mohamad Rafee Abdul Rahman and other committee members. - Bernama, July 13, 2013. _ SOURCE
